About the role
GitLab is the intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps. GitLab enables organizations to increase developer productivity, improve operational efficiency, reduce security and compliance risk, and accelerate digital transformation.
As a Senior Program Manager within GitLab's Enterprise Technology organization, you will lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex, cross-functional technology programs that advance our enterprise IT strategy. You'll serve as a trusted advisor and program execution partner to IT leadership, translating strategic objectives into structured roadmaps and measurable outcomes.
The CIO Enterprise Technology & AI team designs and operates enterprise applications, data platforms, corporate IT services, and AI-enabled workflows that help our globally distributed GitLab team members work effectively and securely.
What you'll do
- Own end-to-end program management for large-scale or high-complexity Enterprise Technology & AI initiatives, including scope definition, roadmap development, resource planning, and delivery tracking.
- Define and communicate clear success metrics for each program, reporting status and risk to Enterprise Technology & AI leadership on a regular cadence, and escalating issues with recommended paths forward.
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to develop a deep understanding of underlying problems, desired outcomes, and solution trade-offs.
- Drive cross-functional alignment by facilitating decision-making, resolving dependencies, and maintaining momentum across distributed teams.
- Recommend and implement improvements to program governance frameworks, intake processes, and ways of working across the CIO org.
- Translate complex technical and business requirements into clear, actionable work plans accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Anticipate risks and interdependencies across the portfolio, proactively mitigating blockers before they impact delivery.
- Model GitLab values and remote work best practices, contributing to a high-trust, async-first team culture.
- Incorporate AI into daily workflows to drive efficiency, innovation, and impact.
What they're looking for
- 6+ years of program management experience, with a strong track record delivering large, cross-functional Enterprise Technology & AI programs.
- Demonstrated ability to simplify complex processes and build structured approaches to ambiguous problems.
- Experience influencing without authority, earning trust with senior stakeholders, and driving alignment across functions, including Finance, Legal, Sales, and Product.
- Comfortable operating at both a strategic level and in the details, switching between executive communication and hands-on program execution as needed.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting program status, risks, and recommendations to ETA leadership and Executive audiences.
- Familiarity with Enterprise IT domains such as business systems, data, AI, security, infrastructure, or enterprise architecture.
- Proficiency with program and project management tools and methodologies (Agile, Scrum, SAFe, or similar).
- Experience working in a remote, globally distributed environment with a bias toward async collaboration and clear documentation.
Nice to have
- Depth in one or more Enterprise IT domains preferred.
- PMP, CSM, or equivalent certification is a plus.

The hot takeJeff's read on Gitlab
GitLab has put more effort into their employee marketing and policies than 99.99% of the companies we've researched over the years. Seriously, their handbook is absolutely massive.
The ONLY thing that throws me off about them is an unclear statement about their stance on what "work from anywhere" actually means. They say:
"All-remote means that each individual in an organization is empowered to work and live where they are most fulfilled."
But they also say that hey need to have an entity in your home country in order to be hired, so I'd love to know if they have a list of the countries they will hire from.
