About the role
GitLab is the intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, enabling organizations to increase developer productivity, improve operational efficiency, and accelerate digital transformation. More than 50 million registered users and over 50% of the Fortune 100 trust GitLab to ship secure software faster.
As Senior Manager, Data Science, you will lead the Product Data Science team of six Data Scientists within GitLab's data organization. You will be responsible for driving product impact by setting the analytical agenda and building a merged Data Science function that blends analytics and data science excellence.

- Own prioritization and trade-offs across product areas
- Partner with Product and Engineering leaders on complex questions using deep dives, experiments, or production models
- Raise risks and resource gaps early with clear options for senior leaders
- Hire, coach, and retain a high-performing team and build career paths
- Build a high-trust culture of urgency, accountability, and predictable delivery
- Set standards for experimentation, causal inference, metric definition, and production modeling
What they're looking for
- 10+ years in data science, product analytics, or a related field
- 3+ years managing data science or analytics teams in B2B SaaS or tech
- Strong product sense and experience partnering with Product and Engineering leaders
- Expertise in statistics and experimentation, including quasi-experimental methods
- Expert SQL (Snowflake preferred) and strong Python
- Experience taking ML models to production
- Fluency with AI tools and sound judgment on AI output trust
- Ability to thrive in an all-remote, asynchronous company environment
Nice to have
- Experience with developer tools, DevSecOps, or product-led growth products
- Experience measuring adoption and quality of AI-powered product features
- Thought leadership in data science or analytics, internally and externally
- Advanced degree in a quantitative field

The hot takeJeff's read on Gitlab
GitLab has put more effort into their employee marketing and policies than 99.99% of the companies we've researched over the years. Seriously, their handbook is absolutely massive.
The ONLY thing that throws me off about them is an unclear statement about their stance on what "work from anywhere" actually means. They say:
"All-remote means that each individual in an organization is empowered to work and live where they are most fulfilled."
But they also say that hey need to have an entity in your home country in order to be hired, so I'd love to know if they have a list of the countries they will hire from.
