About the role
At Zapier, we build and use automation every day to make work more efficient, creative, and human.
We’re looking for a sharp, practical, and technology-forward lawyer who thinks like a business operator. This is a hands-on role anchored in procurement and mid-market commercial work, with opportunities to expand into new areas while rethinking how legal work gets done through AI, automation, and systems thinking.
You will be a member of our legal team and report to the General Counsel. Remote — United States of America.
What you'll do
- Lead responses to legal tickets from teams across Zapier, including sales, procurement, and HR, and escalate to subject matter experts as needed.
- Own legal support for procurement, NDAs, and vendor contracts, including intake through Zip and Ironclad. Partner with procurement and stakeholder teams to draft, review, and negotiate inbound SaaS, service, and consultant/contractor agreements.
- Own day-to-day legal support for mid-market sales deals, including order forms, DPAs, and MSA redlines. Collaborate with Zapier’s commercial counsel to close sales deals.
- Serve as the day-to-day point person for extending the legal team’s existing automations, including NDA and vendor contract review workflows, legal ticketing workflows, and Zip and Ironclad intake. Work closely with the General Counsel and legal team to implement technology to improve the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of legal work.
- Support the legal team on other matters as needs arise, including partnering with employment counsel on personnel-related questions and monitoring legal developments affecting Zapier with internal and external subject-matter experts.
- Advocate for solutions that are compliant and meet business goals while remaining committed to customers, people, and Zapier’s core values.
- Understand company-wide goals to develop systems, processes, and metrics that support Zapier’s growth.
- Other duties as needed to meet the ongoing needs of the legal team.
What they're looking for
- Juris Doctor degree.
- Admitted to practice and in good standing with one or more state bars in the US.
- 4-8 years of legal experience across commercial, operational, or general corporate matters.
- Exceptional drafting and negotiation skills, with experience drafting and negotiating inbound and outbound commercial contracts, including technology/cloud agreements, SaaS service agreements, contractor/consulting agreements, events-related agreements, and other business agreements.
- Ability to research unfamiliar regulations and apply strong business judgment to practical recommendations, analyzing laws, regulations, and policies across multiple jurisdictions and proposing solutions that balance risk with business goals.
- Experience with and enthusiasm for new legal issues; creative thinking, comfort with change and ambiguity, and eagerness to learn new areas of law.
- Excitement to integrate AI throughout day-to-day legal practice, process and analyze information, and build and continually improve legal systems and workflows.
- Self-awareness, high EQ, a positive and solution-oriented mindset, and strong listening, interpersonal, and cross-team working skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize and manage multiple matters simultaneously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, recognizing when to ask for help or escalate issues.
- Strong communication skills and ability to make legalese easy to read for a diverse global workforce. Writing is Zapier’s primary means of communication.
Nice to have
- Combined law firm and in-house experience at a SaaS/technology company preferred, but not required.
